Republic gold Counterstamped Escudo ND (1849-1857) XF45 NGC, San Jose mint, KM84, Stickney-C431. Displaying Type VII round lion counterstamp with legend HABILITADA PO EL GOBIERNO (XF Standard) on the obverse and reverse of a Central American Republic Escudo 1849 CR-JB (cf. KM14). Struck with a somewhat weaker countermark on the reverse, leaving many of the details of the iconic Ceiba Tree motif still visible. A more difficult issue to locate without post-mint issues. Mislabeled on the holder as a Type VI countermark.
