Description

Philip V "Milled" 8 Reales 1734/3 Mo-MF MS64 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM103, Elizondo-8, Cay-9379, Cal-1441. A scarce, but typically by no means challenging overdate for this early milled 8 Reales, and yet one that swiftly climbs in desirability when located this fine. Boasting die polish when examined under magnification and a watery luster than wells in the outer registers when inspected from even an arm's length, to say this example is exceptionally attractive would not be to do it justice. Golden elements cling to the two hemispheres on the obverse, while a fresh mint sheen highlights each and every detail of the design. The reverse, equally pleasing, presents slate gray coloration that creates a strikingly clean and pristine appearance to the crowned arms. Not only is this the undisputed single-finest example in both NGC and PCGS's grading censuses, this stunning near-gem also outranks both the Dr. Patrick Tan and the Rudman specimens by two full grade points--a statistic sure to be widely recognized by connoisseurs of the series.
