Description

British Colony. George III 3 Guilder 1816 MS66 NGC, London mint, KM15, WR-2, Prid-5. Mintage: 10,000. An outstanding specimen of this only two-date denomination, embellished with undeniably vibrant surfaces in shades of silvery-gray, champagne, and just a hint of blue iridescence woven into the reverse peripheries. The obverse exhibits several minor die breaks that, while noticeable, blend nicely into a stormy backdrop, effortlessly swirling with cartwheel luster. Due to an exacting strike, the raised devices display every intricate detail fully--from the finer points of George's bust to the delicate veins on of the reverse leaves. Presently among only one other example in this top level of quality seen across NGC and PCGS combined--outranking the ex. Remick, Dr. Patrick Tan example by a full 5-grade points--and an absolute gem of this popular type rarely offered so fine. Ex. Heritage Auction #3037 (January 2015, Lot 31081)
