Qing Dynasty. Xianfeng (Wen Zong) 500 Cash ND (May-August 1854) AU, Prince Qing Hui mint, KM-C1-10.2, FD-2434, Hartill-22.720, Jen-734. 54mm. 53.99gm. With "sun and moon" marks on reverse. An exceptionally nice survivor from this very scarce branch mint, which only operated for around 4 months from April to August 1854 in order to provide desperately needed pay for the local army. While the majority of examples, already seeing clear use in circulation owing to the purposes for which they were conceived, often suffer from unsightly corrosion, this is hardly the case on the present piece--the characters deeply impressed with sharp edges and an allover minimum of highpoint wear. One of the "cleanest" representatives we have been able to find, characterized by bold reliefs. This lot can be submitted to Gong Bo Grading for certification after the auction at the buyer's request. If you would like to exploit this option, please contact HK@HA.com.
