Description

MACEDON. Thessalonica. Marc Antony and Octavian, as Triumvirs (43-33 BC). AE (28mm, 23.49 gm, 5h). XF, altered surfaces. Dated Year 5 (37 BC). ΘΕΣΣAΛONIKEΩN•EΛEYΘEPIAΣ, draped bust of Eleutheria right, seen from front; E (date) in left field / M•ANT•AYT-Γ•KAI•AYT, Nike advancing left, wreath upward in right hand, palm in left over shoulder. RPC 1551. CRI 672. Glossy olive surfaces. A truly exceptional example of this intriguing issue, perfectly centered with full legends, and decidedly rare thus. Green patina, somewhat smoothed in fields. Evidence of altered surfaces, thus ineligible for encapsulation. From the Norman Tsacalis Collection
