Description

THRACIAN KINGDOM. Lysimachus (305-281 BC). AR tetradrachm (30mm, 17.11 gm, 2h). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. Amphipolis, ca. 288-282 BC. Diademed head of deified Alexander III right, with horn of Ammon; dotted border / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ / ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ, Athena enthroned left, Nike in right hand crowning royal name, resting left arm on shield decorated with gorgoneion boss, transverse spear beyond; ΘE monogram in outer left field, caduceus with handle in inner left field. Müller 103 var. (monogram in right field). Thompson 196 var. (same). Attractive deep cabinet toning. Rare variety and the only example in sales archives.
