Description

S'Heerenberg. William IV Taler (Ecu de 30 Sous) ND (1546-1586) MS65+ NGC, Hedel mint, Dav-8585, Delm-582 (R2), CNM-2.25.4. A most challenging type in all states of preservation, let alone when found in Gem Mint State with an added 'plus' designation as is this example, our research indicating that a total of just 4 representatives have come to auction in the last decade and a half. Far superior to the plate piece in Delmonte, which shows significant weakness in the peripheral registers, the offering retains a significant icy glow over the fields while not showing hardly a trace of unevenness to the planchet and minimal annealing flaws. An ideal target for the Dutch series collector. Ex. Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft Auction 49 (February 2009, Lot 1209); Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft Auction 39 (September 2006, Lot 4076)
