Description

Christian V Speciedaler 1672-GK MS64 NGC, Copenhagen mint, KM362 (10 known), Dav-410, Hede-63C, Sieg-60.3 (R), Salv-22. Danish East India Company issue. A fantastic rarity of the Danish colonial series, and the sole year that this type was produced, with the present offering representing the sole certified specimen. Though just mildly off-center on the obverse, this does virtually nothing to hamper the coin's immense eye appeal, a feature immediately appreciable upon in-hand inspection, and not suffering from any of the planchet flaws that often appear on the emission. Likely even nicer than the Salvesen example--which brought roughly $10,000 when it reappeared at auction in November 2019--we would note that the original Salvesen Collection listing posited only 10 specimens known, five of which are in museums. Ex. Joseph R. Lasser Collection (CNG Triton XVIII, January 2015, Lot 1502); Purchased from James F. Elmen (August 1986); Zander H. Klawans Collection
