Netherlands New Guinea Nederlands Nieuw-Guinea 500 Gulden 8.12.1954 Pick 17s Specimen PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. This outstanding Specimen represents the highest denomination of the series, almost impossible to obtain in issued form. Red overprints and an ascending serial number were added to confirm Specimen status. The 1954 series of Netherlands New Guinea banknotes circulated until the early 1960s, at which time Indonesia absorbed the Dutch colony. Of interest, this region is considered Oceania, as its geography and demographics are quite different from the balance of the Indonesian archipelago.
