An iconic Oceania banknote from the final series of Dutch colonial notes, this piece is desirable as such. Interestingly, West Papua and its surrounding islands are the only portion of Indonesia that is not technically considered Asia, but rather, Oceania. Dutch colonial rule on the western half of the island of New Guinea ended in 1962, leaving extant issued banknotes and Specimen very rare today. This 100 Gulden note is the second highest denomination in the series. At the time of cataloging, only one example is graded higher in the PMG Population Report.
