Ottoman Empire. Abdul Aziz 10 Qirsh AH 1277 Year 4 (1863/1864) MS64 PCGS, Mint given as Misr (in Egypt), though struck in Paris, KM257, UBK-pg. 67 (RRR). Variety without flower to right of toughra. In 1863 the Paris mint struck a series of silver and gold versions of new circulation types for Ottoman Egypt without the flower to the right of the toughra, and examples that have survived in any Mint State condition are quite rare. The present piece stands strong as the finest example certified by PCGS, its velvety surfaces enveloped by deep argent tone, the open expanses of its uncluttered design unencumbered by distracting marks or scratches.
