Description

Vittorio Emanuele II Lira 1867 T-BN MS64 NGC, Turin mint, KM5a.2, MIR-1085h (R2), Gig-67 (R2), Mont-205 (R2). The rarest of only two dates for this Lira type using the crowned arms of the House of Savoy on the reverse, with less than a sixth of the mintage of the 1863 issue from the Turin mint. Simply remarkable in terms of overall condition, a survey of auction records from the last decade revealing hardly an example that has escaped VG to Fine, a trend confirmed by the certified population, where aside from one MS63, the next finest at NGC is a VG. Aglow with olive overtones and peach backlight, and an ideal specimen.
