Description

Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Rudolf August 3 Taler 1685-HH/RB MS62 NGC, Zellerfeld mint, KM564, Dav-LS111a, Welter-1834. With denomination"3" stamped on reverse. Variety with overpunched mintmaster's initials. An utterly charming piece which seems quite nearly choice from all angles, a luminescent argent patina to the surfaces revealing turquoise toning accents around the obverse devices. The much rarer of only two varieties for the type, with initials H.H. overcut on R.B. (for Rudolf Bornemann), of which we've only been able to locate a handful of examples. From the Amsterdam Collection
