Celts - Gaul - Belgium Gaul / Eburones - AR Quinarius (c. 40-30 BC, 1.54 g) – Stylized head right wearing necklace, ‘squared’ hair, ANNAROVECI legend around / Stylized horse to left, ANNAROVECI and pellet above, dotted tail (Scheers, Traité, 352 / DT 638 / LT 8893) – good VF, an extremely rare issue. In 1996, Scheers reported 15 specimens listed (RBN 142, 1996, p. 11). This issue dates back to the end of the Gallic War and is contemporary or slightly prior to the Gallic bronze coinage that bears the legend AVAVCIA. These two series bear the names of a magistrate or king, which indicates that, after the War, a Gallic authority was installed to maintain social structures after Caesar left Gaul. This situation lasted until the political reorganization under Augustus.
