Monumental Apulian red-figure loutrophoros of the Baltimore Painter. About 330 BC. Height 81cm, ø at the shoulder 31,3cm. Handleless amphora with cylindrical corpus type II var. II for water. On the frontside a naiskos, in that a young Lady with dove surrounded by attributes of youthfulness like a ball and beauty like an alabastron. On the back a grave stele. The naiskos as well as the stele framed by four fellows - youths and young women - who are holding further attributes of beautiful life. On the shoulder of the amphora the head of Aphrodite rises from a calyx among fanciful flowers, on the other side the winged bust of a woman. Extremly elaborate usage of white, yellow and red colours for the details. Remarkable is the rare ornament in form of coloured diamonds on the neck. The not dark painted areas are covered with a slighlty brown slip and on the foot with a reddish slip. Gorgeous vase! With copy of the catalogue of the Grisebach-auction! Tiny chippings at the colours, otherwise intact. Formerly in the property of Mrs. and Mr. Becchina. After judicial decision the vase is without limitation tradable in the area of the European Union. Große apulische rotfigurige Loutrophore des Baltimore-Malers. Um 330 v. Chr. H 81cm, ø an der Schulter 31,3cm. Henkellose Amphorenform mit zylindrischem Körper Typus II Variante II zur Wasseraufnahme. Auf der Vorderseite ein Naiskos, darin eine junge Frau mit Taube umgeben von Attributen der Jugend (Ball) und Schönheit (Alabastron). Rückwärtig eine Grabstele mit Trauerbinden. Sowohl Naiskos wie auch Stele werden von jeweils vier Jünglingen und jungen Frauen gerahmt, die als Gefährtinnen und Gefährten der jungen Frau im Naiskos zu interpretieren sind und alle Attribute des schönen Lebens halten. Auf der Schulter vorne der Kopf der Aphrodite im Blätterkelch umgeben von fantastischen Blumen, auf der anderen Seite ein geflügelter Frauenkopf. Sehr aufwändiger Einsatz von Weiß, Gelb und Rot für die Details. Bemerkenswert ist noch die Verzierung des Halses mit einem seltenen Rautenornament. Die eigentlich hellbraunen tonflächigen Stellen wurden mit einem bräunlichen und im Bereich des Fußes mit einem rötlichen Überzug gedunkelt. Monumentales Prachtgefäß! Mit Kopie des Grisebach-Kataloges! Kleine Abplatzung bei den Deckfarben, sonst intakt.
