Sicily, Syracuse. Gelon I, 485-478 BC. Silver Tetradrachm (17.01 g.). Struck ca. 480-475 BC. Charioteer driving quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses. Reverse: Diademed head of Arethusa right; four dolphins around. Boehringer series Vib, 85-86. Large "cud" over-flow of metal caused by a badly cracked die noted on the reverse. Silver-grey toning.
