ABC 1432, VA 626-7, BMC 3410-19, S 428. CCI 04.0536 (this coin). Good VF, rose-gold, bold horse, well ornamented. Ex John Follows collection. VERY RARE only 29 others from these dies recorded, including 17 in the Dallinghoo hoard, now in Ipswich Museum.
This Two Wheels Type stater is part of Dr John Talbot’s Early Boar Horse denominational group which also comprises the Irstead Smiler gold quarter stater ABC 1480 (also part of Talbot’s Irstead issue), Freckenham Daisy Boar silver unit ABC 1570 and Three Antlers silver half unit ABC 1615. Follows’ superb stater shows the big-headed spiky-maned horse in all its glory, including the spur on its legs.
