Description

An intaglio on an etruscan carnelian scarab, mounted on an ancient gold ring. Hercules at the spring/fountain. The hero, turned to the right, is filling an amphora at a spring (or fountain?), holding the container with his left hand; in the right one he is holding the club. Presence of globular elements. Excellent conservation and beautiful stone colour. For comparisons: J. Boardman, Intaglios and rings. Greek, etruscan and eastern from a private collection, n. 150; U.
