Q. Lutatius Cerco. AR Denarius, 109 or 108 BC. Obv. Helmeted head of Roma right; above, ROMA; behind, barred X (partly off flan); below chin, CERCO. Rev. Ship right; above Q·LVTATI/Q (VT ligate); around oak-wreath. Cr. 305/1; B. (Lutatia) 2. AR. 3.71 g. 19.00 mm. Lovely bright old cabinet tone. Minor areas of flatness, otherwise. about EF. The scene depicted on the reverse of this issue shows a boat, in remembrance of the naval victory and triumph of Gaius Lutatius Catulus against the Carthaginians in 242 BC.
