BYZANTINE BRONZE CROSS WITH THE 5 WOUNDS OF CHRIST
Ca. AD 800 - 1000 A Byzantine bronze cross-shaped pendant decorated with moulded five dots/circles on the arms and in the centre to represent the five wounds of Christ. Between the arms, there is a moulded decoration composed of points. On the top is a circular hoop to fix the pendant to a chain or rope. This was an iconic object for daily life during the Byzantine Empire. For similar see: MET Museum Accession Number: 1998.542 (shape).
