★ RARE Waël. of Edessa!!! ★
MESOPOTAMIA, Edessa. Waël. 163-165 AD. Æ. Draped bust of Waël left / Temple with pediment in 3/4 perspective; cubic cult object on stand within, three-rayed star on pediment. BMC Mesopotamia pg. 91, 2. VF, earthen over olive-green patina. Extremely Rare. Edessa was an independent city in an unenviable position between the borders of the Roman and Parthian empires. Waël was appointed to the throne by the Parthian Vologases IV, who had deposed the legitimate king Ma'nu VIII. Waël's reign lasted a brief two years before he himself was deposed by the Romans.
