Chinese Northern Wei Brick with Dancer
Northern Wei Dynasty, 386-534 AD. A carved stone brick with dancing nimbate female, wearing long red robes with black belt and necklace, long bright scarf falling from shoulders, hair pulled up on an elaborate top knot; left arm resting against the leg, right arm raised and bent from the elbow; right leg bent, resting on a small pedestal, the left leg raised with foot resting against the right thigh. 5.9 kg, 34cm (13 1/2"). From a private UK collection, acquired on the London art market 1990-2000.
