Western Asiatic Sassanian Gold Ring with Hunting Scene Gemstone
3rd-7th century AD. A gold ring comprising a hollow-formed D-section hoop, biconvex ellipsoid bezel with inset garnet cabochon, intaglio rearing lion stabbed with a spear by an advancing huntsman. Cf. Chadour, A.B. Rings. The Alice and Louis Koch Collection, volume I, Leeds, 1994, item 470 for type. 4.90 grams, 26mm overall, 17.59mm internal diameter (approximate size British O, USA 7 1/4, Europe 15.0, Japan 14) (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
