Description
Medieval Heraldic Horse Harness Stud with Lion
13th-14th century AD. A fully enamelled bronze quatrefoil stud with reserved trefoil to each blue-enamelled lobe, central red enamel panel with reserved lion rampant reversed. See Ashley, S. Medieval Armorial Horse Furniture in Norfolk, East Anglian Archaeology 101, Dereham, 2002 for discussion. 12.6 grams, 28mm (1 1/4"). Property of a London gentleman; formerly in an old UK private collection.
