Description

Circa 6th-7th century A.D. Tongue-shaped gold cell with applied bands of braided filigree, inset cabochon garnet; integral loop. Cf. MacGregor, A. & Bolick, E., A Summary Catalogue of the Anglo-Saxon Collections (Non-Ferrous Metals), Oxford, 1993, item 24.11, for similar. 5.38 grams, 24 mm (1 in.).

From the private collection of a London gentleman, from his grandfather's collection formed before the early 1970s.
