Stone Age Axe-Shaped Mortar
Upper Palaeolithic Period, circa 50,000-12,000 B.P.. Sandstone boat-shaped mortar with upwardly curved peak, central socket; mounted on a custom-made stand with ol collector's label 'NorthWestern Sahara / Upper Palaeolithic'. 757 grams, 13.5 cm wide (5 1/4 in.).
From the North West Sahara.From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000.From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.
