Description

Stone Age Knapped Flint Axehead
Mesolithic Period, circa 15th-10th millennium B.C. Roughly rectangular core axe with rounded edge and small patch of cortex to one face. Cf. MacGregor, A. (ed.), Antiquities from Europe and the Near East in the Collection of Lord MacAlpine of West Green, Oxford, 1987, item 3.2. 208 grams, 15 cm (6 in.).

From a very old collection based on the cabinet patination.From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000.From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.
