Large Chinese Tang Terracotta Courtly Lady
Tang Dynasty, 618-907 A.D. Modelled standing facing in a floor-length courtly dress featuring a hand fan and floral print; hands held within voluminous sleeves at her chest, presenting a small lidded box; remains of polychrome pigmentation. Cf. Prodan, M., The Art of the Tang Potter, London, 1960, pls.30 and 34, for similar examples. 2.6 kg, 40.5 cm high (16 in.).
Ex West Country collection, Bath, 1990s. Accompanied by a copy of a thermoluminescence analysis report no.CJ142522022 from Laboratory Kotalla.
