Western Asiatic Slip-Painted Calligraphic Ceramic Bowl
Circa 10th century A.D. Conical ceramic bowl with low foot, slip-painted with chestnut brown band to the rim, three calligraphic panels to the inner face with interstitial red and black rosettes; 'Samarkand' ware. Cf. Lane, A., Early Islamic Pottery: Mesopotamia, Egypt & Persia, London, 1947, pl.15, for type. 607 grams, 22.5 cm wide (8 7/8 in.).
