Medieval Silver Round Seal Matrix with Sleeping Lion
Circa 14th-15th century A.D. Discoid plaque with strap and loop to the reverse; central motif of flowers and a sleeping lion within a pelletted border; legend: '* S' BRIEN . MACTAYG . YBRIEYN'. 6.8 grams, 21 mm (3/4 in.).
Found Southern England. Acquired on the UK art market in the 1980s. From an East Anglian private collection.
An interesting example of an Irish personal name.
