Description
Byzantine Bronze Reliquary Cross Pendant
Circa 10th-12th century A.D. or later. Articulated enkolpion with loop; low-relief robed figure to each face in orans pose with legend above '?????C / N??[.]??C' (Saint ..) and ?????C?/?????C (Saint George). See Pitarakis, B., Les Croix-Reliquaires Pectorales Byzantines en Bronze, Paris, 2006, for discussion. 51 grams, 97 mm (3 3/4 in.).
Acquired on the German art market before 2000. From an EU collection before 2020.
