Tudor 'Thames' Pewter Hanger Type Pilgrim's Badge
16th century A.D. Composed of a lozengiform head displaying five bosses, perhaps representing the Five Wounds of Christ, openwork chevrons to the perimeter. See Mitchiner, M., Medieval Pilgrim & Secular Badges, London, 1986, p.184, and discussion there.4.22 grams, 37 mm (1 1/2 in.). Found Thames foreshore spoil, 1980s and recorded with Museum of London.[No Reserve]
