Roman Bronze Panther Collection
1st-4th century A.D. Comprising: a panther figure modelled sitting, semi-naturalistic detailing to the head and face, tail curled to one side of the body; fragmentary remains of the forequarters of a panther depicted in relief with stylised detailing; stylised panther figure modelled attacking, slightly curved profile, possibly a handle attachment. 97 grams total, 36-70 mm (1 3/8 - 2 3/4 in.). ‘The Ancient Menagerie Collection’ formerly the property of a Cambridgeshire lady, collected since the 1990s and acquired from auctions and dealers throughout Europe and the USA, now ex London collection.[3]
