Roman Period, 30 B.C.-323 A.D. Modelled slithering, its body forming meandering loops, with stylised detailing to the head and tail; remains of mounting lug to reverse of head. 40.6 grams, 73 mm (2 7/8 in.). ‘The Ancient Menagerie Collection’ formerly the property of a Cambridgeshire lady, collected since the 1990s and acquired from auctions and dealers throughout Europe and the USA, now ex London collection.
