Merovingian Gold Disc with Garnets Circa 6th-7th century A.D. A sheet-gold disc decorated with a stylised floral design composed of raised cells set with possibly later agate, garnet and other stones, repoussé domes with filigree borders between the petals. 2.18 grams, 30 mm (1 1/8 in.). Acquired between 1980-1990. Property of a London gentleman. Possibly a sword pommel mount or other fitting.
