Description

Sassanian General of the South Bulla Seal 5th-6th century A.D. A ceramic personal bulla impression with an armoured horseman holding a raised spear, Pahlavi inscription in two lines of lapidary script around the inner circle. Cf. Gylselen, R., Acta Iranica 44: Sassanian Seals and Sealings in the A.Saeedi Collection, Peeters, 2007, item III/22, for similar. 110 grams, 71 mm (2 3/4 in.). Acquired 1970-1999. Property of a late London Mayfair gentleman, by descent.
