Hellenistic Gold Earring with Filigree and Garnets 3rd-1st century B.C. A substantial gold earring composed of a round-section hoop embellished with granules below the hinges, two flower head plaques with polished garnet centres, two tear-shaped plaques set with polished garnet cabochons, bulbous body decorated with domed bulbs with apex granules and additional granules between, square-section tiered stem below with floral appliqué to four faces, quincunx of bulbs below with pyramid granule finials. 9.83 grams, 50 mm (2 in.). Acquired between 1980-1990. Property of a London gentleman.
