Greek use of kraters, amphorae, oenochoes, psykters and other cups during the symposium helped to create a sense of the banquet as a band of brothers (as noted in frequent literary references). In the specific case of Morgantina in Sicily, the use of Athenian cups that resembled traditional metal vessels, alongside shapes of various traditions in different wares, could also have signalled alliance between the feasters.
