An aluminium rear spoiler sideplate, finished in white and bearing the 'Pool Jeans' sponsorship decal, from the Formula F3 racing car driven by Ayrton Senna at the Thruxton circuit in August 1983, retrieved following the collision with Martin Brundle which wrecked the car. 589 grams, 44.5 cm wide (17 1/2 in.). Acquired from an enthusiast who collected the piece from the Thruxton track in 1983. Acquired by gift circa 1997. Property of a Nottinghamshire gentleman. Ayrton Senna (1960-1994) was a renowned racing driver from Brazil who won the F1 World Championship in 1988, 1990 and 1991; although he crashed at the Thruxton circuit in August 1983, he went on to win the F3 Championship that year before moving up to F1 in 1984; Senna died as a result of a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix when his car ran off the track at high speed.
