Description

Augustus - Genius AR Denarius. 17 B.C. Rome mint. Obv: AVGVSTVS DIVI F legend with bare head right. Rev: M SANQVINIVS III VIR legend with laureate bust of Genius right with comet above. RIC 338; BMC 71; RSC Julius Caesar and Augustus 1; Sear 1621. 2.80 grams. Found Norfolk, UK, before 2001. Private collection of Mr M.H., Norfolk, UK. This type was struck in commemoration of the Ludi Saeculares, the Secular Games, held by Augustus in 17 BC. [No Reserve]

Good fine; slightly chipped. Rare.
