Description

Henry II - London / Aimer - Mule Short Cross Penny. 1180 A.D. Class 1a2/1a3 mule. Obv: facing bust with HENRICVS REX legend with C and second E square. Rev: short voided cross and quatrefoils with +AIMER.ON.LVND legend with Roman M and round E for the moneyer Aimer at London mint. S. 1343; N. 962; cf. SCBI 56 (Mass), pl.1 for similar examples (different dies). 1.52 grams. Found by John Harrison whilst searching with a metal detector in Lancashire or Cumbria, UK. [No Reserve]

Very fine. Mule rare; dies not in Mass.
