Description

Pulcher, Mallius and Urbinus - Triga AR Denarius. 111-110 B.C. Rome mint. Obv: helmetted head of Roma right; symbol behind. Rev: Victory in triga right; AP CL T MAL Q VR in exergue with MAL and VR in monogram. Craw. 299/1a; Syd. 570; RSC Claudia; Sear 176. 3.84 grams. Property of a London gentleman. The three moneyers are listed as Ap Claudius Pulcher, T Mallius (or Maloleius or Manlius Mancinus) and Q Urbinus with the identity of the latter two being very uncertain; the three-horse triga is very rarely depicted on the Republican coinage. [No Reserve]
