Description

Medieval Seal Matrix for 'Matthew Le Fvll' a Professional Jester. 13th century A.D. A lead seal matrix with circular die, moulded scallop shell detailing and pierced suspension lug to the reverse, six-petalled flower within a roundel and 'S MATH LE FVLL' (Seal of Matthew Le Full) legend around, possibly the seal of a professional jester, 'le full' meaning 'the fool'; accompanied by an impression. The Portable Antiquities Scheme Database, record id.SF-3B00C1, for this item. 12.3 grams, 23 mm (1 in.) Found with the use of a metal detector near Lavenham, Suffolk, UK, on 8 January 2018. Property of a Suffolk, UK, collector. Accompanied by a copy of the Portable Antiquities Scheme report no.SF-3B00C1. [No Reserve]
