Description
Medieval Marble Decorated Column Section. 12th century A.D. or later. Two sections of a limestone arcade pillar, D-shaped in section with facetted angles, heater-shaped spanderel and rectangular capital with incuse cross pattee motif. 37.6 kg total, 36.5-45.5 cm (14 3/8 - 17 7/8 in.) Ex Nachlass Anton Achermann (1914-1995) collection. Acquired from Phillips Auctioneers, Zurich, Switzerland, 28 November 2000, lot 39 (part). Property of a London gentleman. [2]
