Late Anglo-Saxon Zoomorphic Brooch with Romanesque Hunting Dog. 11th century A.D. A Late Saxon or Anglo-Norman brooch comprising a rounded rim and domed openwork figure of a regardant beast (hunting dog?) biting its own tail looped around its rump; Romanesque style. See Backhouse, J., Turner, D.H. & Webster, L., The Golden Age of Anglo-Saxon Art: 966-1066, London, 1984, for discussion and item 271, for stylistic parallel. 8.81 grams, 22 mm (7/8 in.) Found Hampshire, 1993. Property of a Sussex gentleman.
