Description
Scandinavian Viking Boar Brooch. 9th-10th century A.D. A bronze hollow-formed boar-head brooch with domed upper face, two small lug ears, underside with central void, pin-lugs, pin and catch; remains of raised linear detailing. Cf. animal-head brooches in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, in MacGregor, A. et al., A Summary Catalogue of the Continental Archaeological Collections, Oxford, 1997, item 3.10. 45.9 grams, 47 mm wide (1 7/8 in.) Collection formed in the 2000s. Property of an English gentleman. [No Reserve]
