Roman Votive Plaque with Fighting Gladiators. 2nd-3rd century A.D. An openwork votive plaque comprising a scene of two gladiators in combat: one wearing a plumed, broad-rimmed helmet enclosing his entire head and two thigh-length greaves, holding a square-shaped shield and a curved sica sword in his right hand; the murmillo class gladiator wearing a plumed helmet with a stylised fish (mormylos) on the crest, an arm guard (manica) and carries a gladius and an oblong Gallic shield. 66 grams, 62 mm (2 1/2 in.)
