Description

Roman Brooch Collection. 1st-2nd century A.D. A mixed group of brooches of various types comprising: a zoomorphic fly brooch with remains of enamelling; a T-shape brooch with X-motif and notched and collared foot; a discoid plate brooch with sexfoil design, faint remains of enamelling; a cross-bar brooch with central discs, remains of enamelling; remains of springs, pin lugs and catch plates to each. See the accompanying PAS reports for references for each brooch and additional information on classes and sub-classes. 15.1 grams total, 20-40 mm (3/4 - 1 1/2 in.) Found whilst searching with a metal detector, Isle of Wight, UK, 2017-2021. Accompanied by a copy of Portable Antiquities Scheme report nos. IOW-F9DE91; IOW-0B0C9A; IOW-96DFC8; IOW-A9314F. Recorded by Isle of Wight Portable Antiquities Scheme Liaison Officer. IOW-0B0C9A has been designated by PAS as 'a find of note and has been designated: County / local importance'. [4, No Reserve]
