Scythian Animal Applique Collection. 1st millennium B.C. A mixed group of bronze appliqués, including three accompanied by an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Bronze Attachment in Form of Horse 50 x 73 mm. This shows a prancing horse in relief, done in repoussé work with some engraved finishing and with attached eye and ear. Two loops are fixed on the back for a cord or strap to pass through. This comes from west central Asia and is in a form of steppe art, precise dates not yet certain, but probably c.600-300 B.C. This is in good condition and a nice example of its kind.'; (W-64) 'Bronze Attachment in Form of Hose, 49 x 72mm. This shows a prancing horse in relief, done in repoussé work with some engraved finishing and with attached eye and ear. Two loops are fixed on the back for a cord or strap to pass through. This comes from west central Asia and is in a form of steppe art. Precise dates not yet certain, but probably c. 600-300 B.C. The front paw and tail are incomplete, otherwise it is in good condition.'; (W-69) 'Bronze Model of Hose, 46 x 55mm. This shows a walking horse in low relief, done by repoussé work, with wings (now broken) and something resting on its rump, which may be a pecking bird. There is a hole for attachment through the body. This is in a form of steppe art, not easily dated, but probably c. 600-300 B.C. It comes from west central Asia.
