Description

Etruscan Bucchero Aryballos. 6th century B.C. A bucchero aryballos composed of a drum-shaped body, broad shoulder, tapering neck and broad everted rim, integral handle formed as a stylised human neck, head and face, decorative notches to the shoulder and pricked sprays around the body; base with six piercings to facilitate sprinkling(?) 115 grams, 79 mm high (3 1/8 in.) Acquired European art market, 1970s. Private English collection.
